The Perfectionists: How Precision Engineers Created the Modern World
Title: The Perfectionists by Simon Winchester

Publication Date: October 20, 2015
Some people find precision boring. I find it oddly satisfying—probably because I spend my days obsessing over risks and details. The Perfectionists dives deep into the engineers, scientists, and thinkers who pushed the limits of precision, and their work has shaped pretty much everything we use today.
One thing I appreciated about this book is that it tackles accuracy vs. precision—which is a surprisingly big deal when building machines, measuring things, or trying to get a pizza delivered to the right address. Winchester tells the story of how we went from rough, handmade parts to machines that can make machines that make machines (and so on). If you’ve ever spent an entire day making sure one tiny detail is exactly right, only to wildly misjudge something big—like, say, how long a trail run is—this book will feel all too relatable.
